Zulu Wire Baskets from South Africa
The weavers of these beautiful baskets combine traditional skills with modern materials. These beautiful baskets are primarily woven by men, most other baskets are woven by women. Most of the weavers come from the Kwa-Zulu Natal area of South Africa and weave baskets full time. There are two different style of these baskets. The first is the "Simple" or straight weave where it is woven from a hard outside rim towards the center. The other is the "Hardwire" style, which the telephone wire is wrapped around a metal core from the center out.
